Comments on Housing Affordability

Update 1/23: A large group of RTU members attended the Zoom meeting and formed the majority of attendees. Thank you to everyone who attended!

In preparation for the meeting, we developed policy points and improved our understanding of the purpose of Consolidated Plan. Points included:

  • The Garvey Specific Plan threatens existing, affordable working-class neighborhoods with replacement by hotels, retail, and expensive housing.
  • Developer bonuses for affordable housing are too lenient.
  • Build affordable apartments on major roads with access to transit. Existing projects are distant.
